Aside from promoting that I was included in Chris’ eBook, I’ve been off the radar for nearly two months. I mentioned the “holiday from hell” but only now have some time to talk about it. The story is so huge, convoluted and involved that it’s difficult to explain at your average holiday party so I haven’t talked much about it. Since we’ve been doing Marketing Over Coffee and the LinkedIn group has been growing like crazy I rarely talk about pure marketing topics here so hopefully you are used to me rambling on about my goals, absurd hobbies, etc. To give you a feel for the scope, this story includes...
On Heroes
So far the holiday season has been one big trip through hell in a stolen gasoline truck with zombies hanging off of it. Metaphors aside, Chris has put out a nice piece and was kind enough to give me the lead off spot. You can check it out here: http://www.christopherspenn.com/2011/12/awaken-your-holidays/ Or download direct… PDF:...
Master’s in Tree Toppers
After probably 40 years or so of service the Angel that would sit atop our Christmas Tree finally disintegrated. When the quest to replace her began I came across a very similar one on eBay. Ours was much like the one pictured at right, except she had golden wings and her dress matched the wings the way this one does. Life at the top is not easy, in the event the tree goes down you’ve got the farthest to fall and the most time to accelerate. She didn’t have a name, had lost both arms, her wings had fallen apart and her stylish headband was falling off, making her hair a hot mess. The one in this picture is currently on eBay and...
Marathon Relay
I often start to panic when the best-laid plans fall apart rapidly. Such was the case with the Cape Cod Marathon Relay last weekend. About a month ago I had the logistics and team together and my only concern was having a good run. In the week before the event the team went from 5 down to 3, a storm that dropped over 20 inches of snow had rolled in and things were getting ugly at an...
Reading List
This week @EllensAdventure asked me if I had any book recommendations. I’ve had this draft saved for a couple of months so this was the motivation I needed to get it written. Here are some of my favorite books (these are all affiliate links, I am making enough per month to buy a box of diapers, that’s not incredible but beats a sharp stick in the eye). These are a few that come...
Guide for New Dads
A friend heard me talking about books for new Dads and asked for a recommendation. Again I saw the opportunity for a blog post, thanks to the magic of the interwebs I can share this information with millions, even though I am only one child away from being entirely unqualified to write about this. Unfortunately either he was thinking of someone else, he got it wrong, or I was blabbering in...
Third and Three
The third quarter has elapsed and year end is in sight. Here’s the scorecard as it stands: On the Family front I took a hit by not taking a summer vacation. Between starting a new job, juggling the finances and trips back to the Berkshires it wasn’t in the cards this year. I’m also behind on the College Fund, but we have some plans underway to straighten out the cash flow...
Seth Godin on We Are...
A few weeks ago I a great discussion with Seth Godin about his new book We Are All Weird. You can hear the original interview over at Marketing Over Coffee (or just buy the App). I had a request for a transcript, and since I went to the expense of having it written up I thought it was worth posting: John Wall: So your new book here is “We Are All Weird” on the Domino Project...
For Love of K-Cups
Back in April I bought a Keurig B60 for Carin’s birthday. We had a Keurig at work so I had been using it for years and Carin really wanted to be able to brew a single cup without any hassle. I’ve enjoyed trying out a wide variety of coffees (you can check out my coffee ratings here). For buying the coffee, if you are willing to pay a bit more you can order single cups at The...
Live with Seth Godin
The past month has been insane. Thank you dear readers who keep this in your feed despite my spotty publishing schedule. The good news is that I have been writing like crazy and after about 3 years of Saturday mornings at Starbucks or Tunnel City, the first draft of my book is complete. I hope to have it edited in less than 2 months, more on that as it goes. I also did a session on 10 tricks...
